When Joe walked in, he was calm, kind, and professional
A Veteran presented with urinary detention to the ER. The Veteran was cared for by the Charge Nurse, Joe Barber. At the end of his stay, the Veteran asked to speak with the manager of the department. The Veteran stated to the manager:
"I came in here so embarrassed; this is a private issue and I felt uncomfortable even sharing it. I was in so much pain though I had to seek help. When Joe walked in, he was calm, kind, and professional. He told me it was okay and nothing to be ashamed of that he was going to help me. He explained every step to me and even asked if it was okay for a nursing student to come in. He explained to her everything he was doing. Joe was so professional and such a great teacher- I feel like I could probably put in a catheter myself now! I was very thankful for him because he made an uncomfortable and painful situation so much better and took the time to make sure the next generation of Nurses are good ones like him!”
