During clinical this past week, Jon took care of an elderly man who had a new critical diagnosis of PE. The patient became very upset about this later in the day, as his son had died from this complication recently. Jon took the time to sit with the patient and address his concerns in an open way. They connected on their past history of being EMS providers, and the student was able to assist the client in working through this difficult time. Both the nurse and the patient told me that Jon did a great job with this and that it really helped the client work through his concerns. The student demonstrated compassionate care, even when he had multiple patients to take care of.
