I have worked with Jonathan for 15 years as our ENT Nurse Case Manager. Jonathan is an extraordinary colleague and this is evident to anyone who has had the privilege to interact with him regularly. He carries a great deal of responsibility in making our busy service run and does an excellent job not only carrying out his daily tasks but going above and beyond the call of duty on a daily basis. Jonathan is extremely thorough, hardworking, and persistent. As if that weren’t enough, he treats veterans with a graciousness and kindness that is hard to find and worthwhile to emulate. As a recent example, Jonathan truly distinguished himself in his care for a head and neck cancer patient who faced significant social hurdles in treating his advanced airway tumor. Jonathan helped coordinate multiple consults to oncology, nutrition, speech pathology, dentistry, and social work, and worked hard to schedule him in an expedited fashion in the operating room for biopsy. These efforts prevented the patient from progressing to airway obstruction which would have required a tracheostomy and feeding tube. The patient is now undergoing therapy in a timely fashion and feels grateful to Jonathan for working so hard on his individual case to optimize his care. These types of efforts are common for Jonathan, who initiated our Multidisciplinary Head and Neck Cancer Team with me in 2007 and continues to pay the same type of attention to patients in each individual case.
