Joni Johnson, RN, BSN, MHA, CPHQ, CHPN
I responded to a Code Blue and the patient passed away. Joni responded to the code and when the patient passed, she called for a moment of silence and reflection for the patient and his life. I later found out that the family was in the room, but she was not aware of that when she called for a moment of silence. The patient was young and was responsive until moments before the code. This was a traumatic event for the family and staff. Often times we rush away after an event like this one and don't take the time to stop and reflect. I really appreciated that she called for this time. She then stayed and sat at the bedside with the family and supported them further. Joni seems to have endless empathy for the families and staff. I have seen her support, multiple families, through difficult decisions pre and post COVID. I have always been impressed with her professionalism and ability to care for so many people. From what I know about the DAISY Award, Joni is the true definition of what this award was designed for.
