The level of knowledge, skill, and above all, care that Jordan extends to her patients and their families redefines what it means to be a nurse. It wasn’t just one thing that set her apart, it was everything. To fully understand this, I need to begin with when I first met Jordan. During my wife’s c-section, my son did not fully clear the amniotic fluid from his lungs. As such, he struggled to maintain his oxygen levels. Nevertheless, Jordan's quick and skilled interventions kept my son stable and ensured a smooth transfer to the NICU, where he fully recovered.

Two days later, my wife and I were gratefully reunited with our son in our room in Mother/Baby. Unfortunately, that same day my wife experienced an intense migraine flair up, triggered by the physiological stress of delivery, that left her in crippling pain for the next 36 hours. During this time, I lost track of the number of things that Jordan did to assist us. She worked tirelessly to coordinate with doctors and other medical staff to ensure that my wife received top notch medical care. When my wife and I were exhausted from a sleepless night caring for our son, Jordan volunteered to help with his care needs (e.g., diaper/feeding) so that we could rest and recover.

When I had to care for my 2-year- old daughter at home, Jordan ensured my son so that my wife could rest without being overwhelmed. When the doctor ordered a CT scan, Jordan walked by my wife's side to the edge of the unit and then returned to our room to ensure that I was doing “okay” too. Additionally, Jordan's infectious hope and compassion helped both my wife and I manage the mental stress of my wife’s complications. These are only a small sampling of the exceptional care that Jordan clearly provides to her patients and their families daily. When my wife was ready to be discharged, the only saddening aspect was knowing that we would not have Jordan's talented and caring presence at home.
