Jordan was taking care of a very sick mother of three. After taking the patient to CT it was evident that the patient wasn’t going to have a meaningful recovery. When the doctors talked to the family, they made the very difficult decision to make her comfortable. Jordan immediately thought of the patient’s three children that were unable to be there for their mother’s last breaths. She ran to another unit to grab their comfort care cart and pulled out three stuffed animals with three recording devices. She then took the time to record the mother’s pulse on each device. She also intricately taped them so that her children wouldn’t be able to accidentally record over the sounds of their mother’s heartbeat. The fact that Jordan was both taking excellent care of her patient as well as thinking of the sweet children of her patient was so touching to witness. Jordan inspires me every day to be a better nurse, but this experience showed me how much Jordan truly cares about her patients and their families.
