She continued to calm my nerves every step of the way, arriving very quickly after I pressed the button, with a calming and reassuring tone that validated everything I was feeling.
In September 2023, we were about to welcome our first baby - a girl! We were so excited, but obviously, nerves were very high. We met Jordan in triage the first night, but we were unfortunately sent home to labor some more. Coming back the next night, I had a different nurse until shift change - Jordan came back! Looking back at it now, I feel so lucky to have had her assigned to me after that shift change! My labor was progressing quickly thanks to her. She was incredibly knowledgeable in helping me naturally progress through different positions and breathing strategies.
She continued to calm my nerves every step of the way, arriving very quickly after I pressed the button, with a calming and reassuring tone that validated everything I was feeling. She even took the time to educate my husband on how to support me. When it was push time, she never left my side. She was there for multiple hours. Holding my hand, talking me through it all - she even caught an anterior lip that I had going on, she completely fixed it during the pushing process, which resulted in me avoiding a very awful and painful tear! At one point, our baby started to enter a distressed state - her heart rate dropping significantly. She kept me calm, but was able to call in multiple doctors and the NICU team in a quiet way, yet somehow conveyed to them the urgency of their presence. Which, as someone with an anxiety and panic disorder, I appreciated so much.
After delivering, she was incredibly helpful to me, figuring out all the things postpartum, relating to me as she’s been through it multiple times, and didn’t leave my side until I felt comfortable and safe. She is an incredible nurse, and even 9 months postpartum now, all I can think about is how lucky I was to have such a fantastic nurse and how I would be so fortunate to have a nurse even half as great next time around. It is so true that your nurse can make or break your labor and delivery experience, and she sure did make it! I consistently hear amazing things about the nurses and staff at Bellevue, and I believe this deserves recognition.
