Words cannot explain the impact JoRetta has had on her students, peers, and patients over the last 28 years. A recent patient that wrote JoRetta’s DAISY Nomination captured it perfectly when she wrote, “she deserved more than your DAISY Award.” JoRetta has worn many hats and conquered many nursing specialties, but she has always returned to emergency nursing and teaching. JoRetta takes her role as a mentor very seriously, whether it’s onboarding new nurses to our team, guiding and encouraging our current team through a grueling pandemic, or sitting down to provide education and reassurance to her patient on a newly diagnosed condition. She has been our rock for so long – keeping us grounded and recognizing when we need a small dose of Cowgirl (her four-legged sidekick). Many of us have laughed, cried, grown, adapted, led, followed, advocated, and been blessed by JoRetta. We are better humans because of her. JoRetta has role modeled such a love and passion for nursing that her daughter is following in her footsteps. Thank you, Jo, for all you have done and continue to do for our profession and those we care for daily. We are so fortunate to have you on our team!
