I went to the ER and was admitted with shortness of breath, tachycardia, and multiple unexplained rashes on my back. As a woman, I felt self-conscious about my back. I was embarrassed, depressed, anxious, and altogether overwhelmed.

The moment I was transferred from the ER to my room, my nurse, Jose Munoz Jr., greeted me with a friendly, joyful demeanor. I was extremely embarrassed to show him my back. Full of mixed emotions, I lay in bed crying and trying to fall asleep. Jose came in and asked to see my back. Not only did he offer to massage the areas because I was so itchy, but he also helped me forget how embarrassed I felt. He assured me that I was okay and that it was not as bad as it seemed.

Later, the dialysis team came to take me for dialysis, even though I had already declined it. Jose advocated for me and understood that I was exhausted and did not want dialysis at that moment. He respected that I needed to rest and be alone.

When it came to my medications, Jose continually checked to make sure they were effective. During my previous hospital stays, my nurses were not as attentive, happy, or positive as Jose. I truly appreciate the care and hospitality I received today from someone I would describe as an excellent nurse. His bedside manner was a 10 out of 10.

Thank you, Jose, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
