June 2026 Honoree
Josee Vogt, BSN
Josee went above and beyond to advocate for me during my hospital stay. I was having some complications from an abdominal surgery. Earlier in the day, I had a wound vac placed during surgery. Right after surgery, they replaced the wound vac with another. A few hours later, my provider's PA changed the wound vac again. I noticed my nurse, Josee, watching my wound vac on her rounds. At one point, I asked her why my wound vac tank was so full. She said she would check on it and then put me at ease. A little while later, she asked me if it was ok if the nurse who helped train me could take a look at my wound vac. I had noticed blood pooling in the wound vac. Both nurses were very professional. They talked about it briefly, then went back out of my room. Josee came back a few minutes later to take my vitals. She then called my provider and told him that my wound vac was filling with blood and did not look correct. Josee continued to advocate for my needs and had a more experienced nurse come in to confirm the concern. They agreed to call my provider back. Come to find out, I was actively bleeding and had to have the provider work on me again. I was so impressed with how professionally Josee handled the situation. She put me at ease but also didn't back down when she believed there was a problem.
Thank you, Josee, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
