He has proven himself to be dedicated to all matters involving patient safety. Our pediatric surgery group has claimed him as an integral member of our team due to his commitment to excellent patient care, hardworking nature, and positive demeanor. No matter how big or small the case, I trust him to have our pediatric patients’ best interests in mind when coordinating their surgical care. We had a combo robotic case on a pediatric patient. Exparel peripheral nerve block was planned, and when I ordered the drug via the standard order set, the system allowed me to order the adult dose. He alerted the whole team so that we were able to correct the issue before it got to the patient. But he did not stop there. He alerted multidisciplinary leadership and stayed involved until the issue was corrected in the EHR. As such, he ensured this issue would not cause harm to any future patients. I can think of no one more deserving of this award than Joseph. He is truly a safety champion.
