While rounding on a patient care area, an employee was quick to provide her personal story. Her husband was a patient here for a test procedure; after the procedure was completed he had trouble breathing. It was identified that he had had a massive heart attack. He ended up in the Cath lab for stents followed by the ICU due to his critical condition. Once in ICU, it was determined he needed to go to a higher level of care. Joe (who had done the anesthesia for his procedure) came to the unit and prayed with me. "This meant so much to me". Many providers would not have bothered to check on a patient, but Joe "went above and beyond". Joe continued to check on them which was truly a sign of compassion.
