Joe always goes above and beyond for his patients, maintains a calm demeanor in every situation, and is a valued member of the nursing team. However, he was recognized in response to specific interactions with a recent patient. This patient didn't have many visitors during his stay, and Joe made it his mission to ensure that the patient felt well cared for, including sitting with him after his shift was over. He put in extra effort to spend as much time as possible with this patient. He engaged the patient in activities, including going on wheelchair rides, watching television, and ordering special food from the cafeteria. Joe even stopped on his way to and from work to pick up the patient's favorite snack to brighten his day. Despite serving as a charge nurse and having a full patient assignment, Joe took the extra steps to make this patient's stay as comfortable as possible, helping to make the best out of an otherwise difficult situation.
