She will take that extra step to go out of her way no matter how big or small the tasks are.  She will call the refugee clinic, school nurse, daycare, or family in another country to help advocate for the patient and avoid a full vaccine startover.
Words cannot explain how much this nurse’s presence has positively changed our department in the past four years.  She constantly lifts her team morale upward and finds a way to help even the most difficult of patients. She will take that extra step to go out of her way no matter how big or small the tasks are.  She will call the refugee clinic, school nurse, daycare, or family in another country to help advocate for the patient and avoid a full vaccine startover.  The little patients truly appreciate her efforts.  She will call the pharmacy to set up mail orders and will help teach patients how to complete their refill requests over the phone.  You might think this is part of our job however, she will contact patients after hours on her own time to ensure they have the information written down correctly even having them draw hearts on their BP medication and eyes on drops so the patients don't mix eye drops with ear drops.  She has become such a great resource that Pharmacy now calls her for help regarding our department’s patients and unique floor stock.  She is known to send emails to colleagues stating, “My patient seen today is in need of a jacket, shoes, school supplies, etc. Here are the sizes, let me know if you can help,” and sometimes it’s the little things that make all the difference to someone.  She has a compassionate heart and is a true servant leader.  Just as much as she cares for her patients, she also does the same for her colleagues.  She will stay late and come early when needed and make herself available for her team when she needs to fill in.

This nurse is very professional and possesses many leadership qualities.  She helps me turn errors and bad experiences into learning opportunities for our staff.  She comes to me with solutions to departmental issues and is a great communicator.  She has a ready to help attitude and sometimes goes a little overboard telling me “Don't put it off, let’s get this done today!” She keeps me on my toes, reminds me to follow up on action items, and has pretty much become my right hand.  She is a very hard worker and does it all with a smile.

Several Nurse Managers know this nurse as she has helped cover their clinics and helped set up and work the COVID mega sites.  They comment on how awesome she is and how they appreciate her problem-solving abilities.  It makes me proud to hear such wonderful comments from other individuals who know the true definition of what a strong Parkland Nurse entails. This Nurse is an amazing co-worker and friend.  We can rely on and trust her with any given assignment or situation.  On behalf of our entire department, we would like to recognize her for her utmost compassion and for simply being a blessing to work with.
