During the month of February, my father was critically ill following complications from a 3vCABG at Fairview. He had an atypical course from the start and ended up in the SICU at Fairview Hospital for 30 days. The care provided in SICU by the nurses, aides, and ICU staff was exceptional! One nurse, in particular, Josh Revels, was a source of constant support for my father and our family during an exceptionally difficult time for both us and him.

We often forget that the care a nurse provides extends far beyond the patient. Josh exhibited exceptional skill as a bedside nurse, but also demonstrated a degree of empathy and compassion that far exceeded expectations. On the days when Josh was caring for my father, our family felt reassured that his needs would be met, which gave us peace of mind and allowed us to rest. Josh was incredibly attentive to my father’s comfort and critical needs.

On numerous occasions throughout his stay, Josh allowed me to assist with my father’s basic care in meaningful ways and provided explanations of the next steps in his recovery process. Josh often checked in on our family and him on the days when he was assigned other patients. He made our family feel present in my dad’s care. I have worked in healthcare for over 15 years and I can honestly say I have never met a nurse like Josh. His care for my father and my family has impacted the way that I practice medicine. I will forever be grateful to him!
