Josh has been at Seattle Children's for less than a year and has already affected change at an Institutional level with his evidence-based, research-backed "Frontline Staff Relief Project." He is a fierce advocate for patients by being a fierce advocate for the frontline staff that care for them. Not only is he new to Children's and having to learn our policies and procedures for patient care, but he is also new to stepping into a leadership role and has done so with more patience and transparency than any leader I have encountered during my 5 years here.

Josh is honest during difficult conversations, listens without judgment, promotes teamwork and inclusivity, is open to constructive criticism, supports frontline change requests for things that can be changed, and he provides understandable explanations for things that cannot be changed. When in clinic, Josh supports patient care in any way we need - from cleaning rooms to facilitating emergent transfers. He shows respect for our team by valuing our opinions and expertise, escalating our ideas to other leaders, and giving credit where credit is due.

On more than one occasion Josh has ordered us snacks, supplies, or replacement parts while not even in clinic. He responds to emails in the wee hours of the morning. He starts message threads with the Charge Nurses every weekend that he is on call to make sure we have a clear path of escalation. His dedication to his team is heart-warming, and I am so glad I’m one of them. Seattle Children’s Hospital could not ask for a better Nurse Leader than Josh Carter.
