We would like to thank this nurse and share the story of why this nurse is so special. My husband was brought up to CVICU from being admitted to the ER. Upon arrival, his ICD Implant shocked him for the 3rd time, resulting in the doctor intubating him for loss of oxygen and arrhythmias at very high levels and being sedated.

The next morning we arrived, and Joshua was his nurse, and he probably noticed right away that my daughters and I were very vulnerable, as this was the worst state my husband has ever been in. From the moment we met him, he was very attentive, every question we had he answered to the best of his knowledge, and never assumed or guessed or made us feel as if he didn’t care.

We continued to have Joshua as my husband’s nurse the next couple of days, and I can honestly say Joshua is the true definition of “Patient Care.” One thing I noticed in his scrub pocket each day was a book. I didn’t ask him what it was, but I knew, due to my family being very religious people, and seeing this in his pocket gave me even more faith and made me feel more at ease that he comes to work with a purpose.

My husband was in this particular room for 18 days, out of those days 13 on a ventilator and sedated, and Joshua even witnessed when another awesome employee, the Respiratory Supervisor, extubated him. The expression on Joshua’s face after this, and meeting my husband in his true state of mind as a person, and being able to ask him personally if he needed anything, or bringing him his first meal, is something I will forever keep saved in my heart.

My husband was moved to Telemetry after a couple of days, and honestly, he even said, “Aww, I miss everyone in ICU,” but it was time to give the room to someone in critical need. This experience has been a roller coaster of emotions, but Joshua and all the staff at CVICU  are great at what they do and are all awesome employees.
