We could tell immediately that he was a very gentle, caring, and knowledgeable nurse.
Recently, my best friend, E, was transferred from another hospital to Monroe Hospital to their ICU. Her husband and I were very worried and probably viewed as intrusive. Josh took it in stride. We could tell immediately that he was a very gentle, caring, and knowledgeable nurse. He had a student with him on the day of E's admission. He showed the student the proper way to care for a very ill or dying person. He explained what was happening, what he was doing, and what the plan was. He tolerated us, our questions, and our concerns. When the decisions had to be made about "End of Life", he was able to reassure us that E would not suffer. Then, as more family came to say their "Good Byes", he made such compassionate gestures toward the family. As the room filled, he took it upon himself to make everyone welcome. He brought in a cart with snacks, granola bars, chips, and drinks for the family. He also ran off a heart monitor strip for each of the family members to have as a memento. He remained at her bedside and cared for her with such tenderness. We were so lucky to have been given this incredible nurse during Elaine's final days. I think it is more apropos that E, too, had an autoimmune disease which ended her life. Nurses are too often the unsung heroes of healthcare, and I wanted to make sure that this nurse was recognized for his special talents and skills. Thank you for being with E and her family during her last journey.
