The patient was decompensating and agitated. Joshua sat down with the patient's wife and simply stated, "Tell me about your husband." After listening to her describe him and his passions, he learned his passion for his dog. The wife did not ask, but Joshua offered, "If I can make it happened for his dog to visit, can you get someone to bring her up?" The dog was able to come to the unit and lay in bed with the patient. As altered as the patient was, he knew his dog was there. He petted her and it calmed the patient calmed down. Two days later the patient passed away. He was able to see his dog before he died, and it was very meaningful. Joshua is consistently compassionate with his patients, going above and beyond. He is a phenomenal nurse and should be recognized.
