Because of Joshua's and Dr. B’s assistance, our patient collected 24.66 million cells yesterday. Her goal was 6-8 million.
In the height of the EPIC outage, Joshua went to the Hemapheresis clinic in 4T-S to help a woman avoid placement of a vascath and allow for peripheral hemapheresis. IR had canceled her line placement due to the outage, and she was already prepped by the oncology service. So rather than admit her to the ICU for placement of a non-benign, very large central line, Dr. B managed to place 1 of the hemapheresis catheters peripherally for them and Josh the other one.

It really is the small things we do that make the biggest impact. Because of Joshua's and Dr. B’s assistance, our patient collected 24.66 million cells yesterday. Her goal was 6-8 million. We don’t always see the good outcomes of the work we do. By you doing what you do every day, we were able to collect her and avoid unnecessary hospitalization during a very challenging day. The patient and family were grateful. After she finished, she shared that she was scared to have the central line placed and was happy she actually got to avoid it. Thank you so much for not only being skilled but also kind. You made a difference in all of our days yesterday. You are officially an honorary Hemapheresis nurse.
