Josie Mckee is a great nurse with her quick thinking, compassionate care, and her kindness she shows to everyone.
Josie McKee deserves the DAISY Award because of her kindheartedness, dedication, and overall kindness to the patients she cares for, along with staff. There have been many times I have been around co-workers (RNs, Pharmacist, Dietitians, and Doctors) talking about how great of a nurse she is, and I feel it's time she's recognized.
***
When I was freshly off orientation, my patient started to medically decline and needed to be intubated right at shift change. Josie explained step by step what needed to be done and stayed over more than an hour past the end of her shift to make sure I was caught up and didn't need any more help. She did all this without it even being her patient! Many times, she does whatever she can to help nurses on the unit. Whenever someone is declining, she helps carry out orders when procedures are happening quickly. There have been many times I have gone to Josie, and she'll re-explain and demonstrate how to do certain things such as A-line set up, help with Bridge for administering blood, and always lends a helping hand when repositioning patients.
***
Josie takes great care of her patients and recently advocated for a patient to get a CT scan to rule out a pulmonary embolism. The patient had a new onset of symptoms, and Josie coordinated with the hospitalist to get the proper treatment started.
***
If I have a patient after Josie, they always praise her and tell me how great of a nurse she is and ask if she will be back to take care of them. Also, many staff members talk about an excellent job she does with her "end of shift note" so they can get a better idea of what happened during that shift with her patients. I feel that Josie Mckee is a great nurse with her quick thinking, compassionate care, and her kindness she shows to everyone.
