Josie had a wonderful way of explaining things and taking the fear out of having a premature baby.
My daughter, S, was born at twenty-nine weeks and six days gestation. She received the most incredible care in the NICU at Children’s, and after just seven days, our little girl was transferred into the ICC. That came with mixed emotions, as it was a happy move to know that S was doing well enough to move to a lower level intensive care, but it was also scary because none of the nurses in the ICC knew our little girl! Those fears disappeared the minute I met Josie.
I watched this woman, who I didn’t even know, care for my little baby like she was her own. When S was sick from the HMF Fortifier, Josie was instrumental in helping to resolve the problem. And when we tried the fortifier again and S reacted poorly, she was ahead of the game, and voiced her thoughts regarding the fortifier. She advocated for my child beyond what I would have expected any nurse to do. Josie had a wonderful way of explaining things and taking the fear out of having a premature baby.
Josie is the true embodiment of who a nurse should be. It takes a very special person to look after premature or ill infants. The tenderness, love, and extraordinary care that she showed my daughter is one of the reasons I believe S is still here with us today. She thrived under Josie’s care, and we could not have been more blessed to have such a wonderful, amazing, and truly talented person taking care of our little girl.
