I had a child born brain damaged because the hospital did not have fetal monitors in 1971 and he was rendered profoundly brain damaged by his cord. Upon hearing this, Josie compassionately shared with me that her 18-year-old daughter is a special needs child as she was in an accident when she was 2 weeks old and requires the care of a baby, with various levels of awareness. It was very brave, and heartfelt, for Josie to open up and share with me this story knowing I had an affinity with her because of my son. I would like to recognize Josie for her compassion (which extends to her patients) and for being so benevolent and caring when she carries such a heavy burden emotionally and physically every day.
