August 2017 Honoree
joy bridewell, RN, BSN
S's stay started out with a very long wait to get admitted from Infusion and get an IV and meds going. When Joy was assigned to S, things finally started looking up. She listened to him and worked to let him sleep (he was exhausted). She timed her nursing tasks in an optimal way. She took the time to listen to S and his wife, and was the one who looked into S's meds when his wife expressed concern. They realized his Ativan had been discontinued by mistake, which was likely contributing to his nausea/vomiting. She immediately addressed this with the doctor, helped schedule a care conference and continued to listen to S, while advocating for him and supporting his physical and emotional needs. Her can-do attitude was a positive turning point in S's stay, and helped move him towards discharge and recovery. We can't thank Joy enough!
Thank you, Joy, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
