Joy diligently follows up with each patient, establishing a unique relationship with each person and their family.
Very early on in the COVID outbreak, I walked out to read the signs in front of the hospital supporting the healthcare heroes in the hospital. If I am honest, I was brought to tears. It was a sentimental moment and reaffirmed my understanding of how we can all be a real healthcare hero. Perhaps the scariest thing about COVID is that we were not always sure what the best treatment would be to help our patients. Physicians and Hospitals have all been working tirelessly to try to determine how to best approach COVID treatment. The development of structured clinical research, utilizing randomized controlled clinical trials, is what defines the modern age of science-driven clinical medicine. The United States is currently leading the charge in the fight against COVID through widespread and rapid implementation of clinical research protocols. The research team at Torrance Memorial has responded to the call to action. We have launched multiple cutting-edge initiatives to help improve treatment and care for our patients. Among the team of research superstars, there is one person who helps me understand the definition of a healthcare hero. This nurse consistently hustles to make sure the program is successful. She jumps at the opportunity to enroll the next patient. She diligently follows up with each patient, establishing a unique relationship with each person and their family. She coordinates with multiple services in the hospital, ranging from laboratory, Cardiology, and radiology. For all the reasons above, I would like to recognize Joy Gonzalez from the research department as a healthcare hero and a true DAISY Nurse.
