Joy Moler, RN
There was a patient in the hospital whose step-son committed suicide. Joy Moler, ANS gave support to the patient. This nurse was concerned because this patient stated that he just needs a little time with his wife, but did not want to sign out AMA. Joy worked with the director on call and offered after-hours visitation if the patient's wife was able to come into the hospital. The wife was too upset to do so. Joy continued efforts to find a way for them to see each other at this time of crisis. She spoke with the patient's physician, who was okay with allowing the patient to take LOA for up to 4 hours with having meds on "HOLD" until the patient returned. Once approved she worked with the patient to have a friend come and pick him up at the hospital and the patient returned to the hospital.
