How do I start a story about an Angel? We met Joy on the worst day in our lives. My husband suffered a heat stroke which put him in Kidney failure and the elevated potassium attacked his heart. In addition his blood pressure would either bottom out or go sky high so he had to be admitted and had a Pace Maker implanted. After surgery we met our Angel.
My husband had a bad reaction to a medication and was going "CRAZY", we were so afraid. Nurse Joy Wharton was amazing. He kept throwing up repeatedly with Blood Pressure sky high, hallucinating, screaming, etc. however this did not faze Joy she took care of every issue. Other nurses walked out of the room but Nurse Wharton never left his side, she even stayed on after her shift and called in on her day off to check on me and my husband.
After seven days we went home, four days later we were back because the Pace Maker was malfunctioning. After being admitted back to the same unit, I was going down the hallway and there was our Angel once more. A peace came over us, Joy was here. We thought the last time around was bad, however this time was even worse with severe vomiting and uncontrollable B/P. Joy tried everything, contacting Doctors or anything she could do. I never left my husband's side, not even to eat. Joy would be watching his V/S, taking care of throw up, feces, slowing adding crackers as his stomach was on fire. Again, Joy never left us.
After the second pacemaker was fixed they discovered two blocked arteries; "Stent Time". Again there was our Angel Joy. She would be an amazing teacher, but then we would not have the amazing talent in clinical Nursing. I know God saved my husband, but I also know for sure that God put Nurse Joy Wharton on our case because he knew it would be challenging and she would handle it all.
Nurse Joy Wharton will always be in our hearts.
