A patient one of the nurses was navigating called and spoke with Joyce Bynum. She was a breast cancer patient that had sentinel nodes removed. She fell while on a trip to China and had significant swelling. She had x-rays and did not have a fracture. The doctor in China felt it was lymphedema but did not know how to treat it. Joyce jumped into action. She called her Oncologist to inform her of the situation. She then called the Physical Therapist that is certified in lymphedema. They walked the patient through how to measure her arm and how to order the proper garment. The patient had to fly home, as her mother-in-law was sick, and they got her in to see the therapist and she is responding well. This is just one of the times I have witnessed the care and actions that Joyce does for her patients. These actions could prevent the patient from having lifetime complications. This is not only a DAISY nomination but to me, it's a Magnet Nurse moment.
