Joyce Rucker

Each day, whether it be during lecture or during clinicals, Joyce demonstrates what it means to be an outstanding nurse. She is kind, patient, compassionate, and incredibly intelligent. I can think of many examples to share about when Joyce went above and beyond to offer extraordinary care to her patients, however one instance really stands out.

We were at clinicals at Pratt Health and Rehab, and I watched her interact with a female resident who had lost her husband. This particular resident often stayed recluse in her room. I could be mixing this up, but I believe she cared for this resident in a different capacity previously. I peeked into the room and Joyce was helping the woman get dressed for the day.

She was extremely patient, talked with the resident like they were old friends, and took extra time to assist her. She was a bright light in this resident's life that day. It was apparent the woman felt seen and heard. I could tell Joyce really had made an impact on her in those few minutes. But that truly is Joyce. She does not give herself enough credit for the love she gives to those in her world. She is a light of person and will continue to make an impact on those she cares for.
