I was in labor for almost 40 hours and my water had been broken for over 24 hours, so an infection had set in. I was terrified because I knew a c-section was in my future and although I came into this with no birth plan, a c-section was not part of it. Joyce was there for me to talk and calm my husband and me down. She also did one of the most amazing things anyone could have done for me. She made me feel human again! She brushed and put my hair up in a bun, it was a ratty mess. She cleaned me up and gave me washcloths to wipe my face, hands, and neck. She got me stuff to aid in brushing my teeth and made me feel better about what was going to happen. Without Joyce, there is no way I would have felt confident in what was going to happen to me. She stayed with me through the surgery and even afterward. Thank you, Joyce!
