Mama Joyce came in tonight, on her night off, to help console a patient who was having a very hard time and needed emotional support. Mama Joyce stayed for hours to accompany the patient and went with her to the NICU to visit her infant. She deserves a huge High Five!

Joyce took care of a very young patient this week. This patient had been through some very difficult times. The baby that she delivered was a product of rape. Joyce was the perfect nurse to take care of her. She was very attentive to all her needs - giving her the opportunity to just sit and cry when she needed, to support her however she needed. On Friday night, this young patient had no one to be with her. Joyce came in on her night off to stay with her. The patient had opened up to Joyce on Thursday that her Christmas had not been very good. When Joyce came in, she brought her a stack of Christmas gifts! What a wonderful thing for Joyce to do.

Joyce came in on her night off to comfort a very young adolescent patient who had recently delivered a baby at our hospital. This adolescent mother was herself a victim of abuse. This young girl had also expressed the day before that she had not even been able to celebrate Christmas. Not only did Joyce come in on her day off to offer this young girl support, but she also brought her an armload of Christmas gifts along with a beautiful pair of pajamas! Joyce remained with the girl until she was feeling better. She then came with her to the NICU to visit her baby before taking the girl back to her room so that she could rest the night. I'm happy to be able to work with someone who is so very thoughtful and kind to our patients.
