I want to recognize JoyceSarah for her act of service. I have worked closely with this amazing woman since hired at McLane Children's. I feel that she is one nurse who is overlooked. She comes to work every morning with a huge smile on her face greeting everyone she passes. She is the one nurse I can run to with all problems with any patient from every department. She literally drops anything to help a patient or coworker in need. No matter how stressful her day may be or how much work she has in front of her. Placing our patients first is her biggest concern. Wearing her title so proudly and upholds every value that Baylor Scott and White stands for.
Recently, we had a patient and her son stuck in the elevator. The patient's mother informed us that she has anxiety, and was unfortunately in a situation that was out of her control. The grandmother and sibling were standing outside of the elevator worried. Although we had serval staff members outside the doors trying to help and being a front desk staff-member, watching the incident happen on my floor, I knew the right person to call was JoyceSarah. She quickly dropped all of her work, grabbing Gatorade, water, juice and teddy grams. Rushing to the elevator, I watched her evaluate over the whole situation within 30 seconds. She first walked over to the grandmother and sibling. Introducing herself with name and job title. Not only speaking to the adult but also getting eye level to the sibling offering comfort items while they wait for their family members' rescue. Reassuring them that everything was going to be ok. Quickly moving over to the elevators while other staff members stand around. She asked the maintainer to open up the doors so she could see and speak with the mother and child. Comforting them, gaining their trust. Seeing her sitting on the floor, making them her number 1 priority was just so heartwarming. Making them laugh and offering them something to drink and a snack until help had arrived. Knowing that she had other duties, she willingly placed herself in a situation that she did not have to be in, there were other staff members around. Not only did she wait for their rescue, she even walked the patients down the stairs to the first floor. I have seen her go out of the way for many others in different situations. I do not only feel that she went above and beyond, I know she did.
