As a new father, entering the room I saw a male nurse helping my wife with our baby. It was very difficult for me to accept his help. My wife was experiencing birth for the first time and was very anxious about her symptoms and problems she was having. He was discussing very personal anatomical questions with my wife and it made me very uncomfortable. Over several days, Juan "Opai" Adamson took the time to talk to us and eventually opened my eyes to how confident he was. As he described the care my wife (and baby) needed, I began to understand, appreciate and accept his help (knowledge and professionalism). It is very unusual in my culture for a male nurse to assist in this type of care. We are very grateful and would like to honor Opai with this nomination.
