March 2024 Honoree
Juan Karlo Reyes, RN
I just wanted to pass along my deepest gratitude for the work Karlo (RN) did overnight in the CVICU for Mrs. A, a 90-year-old TAVR patient who came to the CVICU rather suddenly after her TAVR due to a new pericardial effusion.
She decompensated during her time here and was rushed to the CT scanner, where we found her entire left thorax was filled with blood. Karlo calmly and professionally helped manage her through intubation, art line placement, and chest tube placement and then got her transfused and resuscitated. She was definitely on the brink of disaster, but with the team acting together as one, we were able to pull her through. The entire overnight CVICU team banded together to pitch in while things were going poorly for Mrs. A. I just checked on her remotely, and it looks like she is extubated now and MUCH more stable!
