Juan has consistently exemplified the VHA’s mission of honoring America's Veterans by providing exceptional health care that improves their health and well-being, throughout his tenure as a registered nurse for the Dermatology department. Recently, a patient requested same-day dermatology services without a scheduled appointment.  Juan, without hesitation, assisted the veteran with their concern. Upon further assessment, the patient needed multi-disciplinary care to be addressed. He diligently spent time communicating with the veteran and providers to ensure that his needs were met. He collaborated with other nurses, dermatology providers, the laboratory department, medical support personnel and other specialties to resolve the patient’s concerns. The veteran was ensured a follow up future visit, necessary orders coordinated and completed through his efforts. He was caring and his excellent interpersonal skills has made an upset patient to a satisfied veteran from his positive attitude and diligence. 

Juan's professionalism and dedication have made him a resource for many aspects of the dermatology clinic’s daily operations. He leads the team by ensuring that the clinic nurses are properly and fairly assigned to their daily assignments. As the lead for the dermatology phototherapy section, he ensures that all nursing staff are trained properly, and our veterans receive a safe and optimal outcome from the department's care. He embodies the VHA’s ICARE values by demonstrating Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect, and Excellence in his nursing practice.
