I have worked with Nurse Juan for a year now at Aegis Lake Union. From my personal observations and encounters with him, he is exceptionally respectful, communicative, caring, and the most competent nurse I have worked with in the seven years I have been at Aegis.

Being a male nurse can be difficult, but Juan performs with so much grace and patience. Especially when it comes to our residents.

One particular interaction I remember specifically is when a resident had just come back to the community from surgery, and she needed attentive nursing care for her wound. This resident has dementia and requires a lot of patience and reassurance. Nurse Juan was calm, patient, and gentle throughout the whole process. He talked her through the entire wound care and was honest about how much it would be uncomfortable and prepared her for every step.

I admire Juan for his respect and care towards our residents. Aegis Lake Union is very fortunate to have him, and it would be our community’s honor to have him receive the DAISY award.
