Judean is trustworthy and motivational. There was a period in my career that I was struggling post Covid crisis and she made time for me to just talk on more than one occasion.
When I think about the qualities that a great leader should have, I think of someone that is an effective communicator, motivational, honest, trustworthy, and accountable. Judean exhibits all of these. Judean is the CNO for our organization. She is a true advocate for nursing. She has advocated for staff satisfaction. This is such an important area to focus on.

She has developed a CNO council with front-line staff members. She is developing relationships with the staff and not only discussing concerns, she is 100% on board with changing the culture. She inspires positivity. In addition to this CNO council, she makes it a point to round on nursing units to check-in. Nurses know who Judean is when she walks on the units and they don’t “hide”. They look forward to seeing her and having a moment to chat. This has a huge impact on nursing. They feel valued and feel important because their CNO made time for them. This just shows how much she values nursing. She is changing the culture one step at a time.

Judean is trustworthy and motivational. There was a period in my career that I was struggling post Covid crisis and she made time for me to just talk on more than one occasion. She listened first. Genuinely listened. She offered advice when I needed it and she helped me talk through all avenues available. She didn’t give up on me and she certainly didn’t let me give up on myself. She made time for me to have routine check-ins with her and helped me to get on the path that was right for me at that time. She continues to encourage me to grow professionally. She challenges me to be better.

She doesn’t just have one kind of leadership style. She finds a way to lead each individual in a way that works for them. This is what she has done for me. I am more confident but I am also more confident with not knowing something and reaching out for help. She promotes a healthy and positive work environment that allows nurses and nurse leaders to thrive. She promotes teamwork. She encourages us to work together to find solutions. She encourages us to critically think and come up with solutions. Judean is the DAISY Nurse Leader and she inspires us all to be better.
