Judie is responsible for all units of the UC Davis Children's Hospital, including pediatric and neonatal inpatient units, critical care transport services, and inpatient obstetric/gynecological units. Under her visionary leadership, her many units have shown steady improvements in patient satisfaction, infection rates, and care quality.
Judie's successes derive from her ability to put a human touch on hospital operations. When she established a twice-daily Children's Hospital Huddle, a tag-up of representatives of all patient-touching hospital units, the result was a .74-day decrease in length of stay.
Concerned about families facing loss, Judy developed the UC Davis Children's Hospital Bereavement Program, established the Young Adult Bereavement Support Group, and now serves as chair of the hospital's bereavement committee.
Because of Judie's work, the hospital has grown revenue by 33 percent, increased referral calls by 18 percent, decreased pediatric patient denials for admissions from referring organizations from 16 to 3 percent, and obtained Level 1 Children's Surgical Program verification by the American College of Surgeons.
Where there is a need, Judie has found an answer, including establishing a quality and safety champion program, a pediatric cancer survivorship program, and young children's peritoneal dialysis program, all while raising over $2.8 million in philanthropic support.
