She is phenomenal at her job, and she will always be my favorite nurse when I tell people about the birth of my son.
Judy made me feel like a real person. She answered every single question I had, honestly and with information to back up her answer/reasoning. She explained every detail about any situation that may arise or has arisen. Each time she checked on me, she always asked if there was anything she could do specifically for me. She remembered my nickname, which may seem small, but it made me feel better.

She kept track of timing very well for every single thing. I drink a lot of water, and she always made sure to bring me a new one, without my asking. She held my hand and encouraged me the first time I walked again. She consistently told me how well I was doing with things, but also made sure to say a few things to try to work on in the nicest way possible. She constantly asked if my husband was okay, the only person to do so during our stay, and if he wanted any snacks, drinks, etc. She also remembered his name; nobody else did the whole time.

Due to us having animals, my husband had to drive home during the night to check on them. She requested that we let her know when he was leaving, just so she could make sure to check on me and help me more often with the baby. She changed all the diapers and even swaddled him for me when I couldn’t, without even asking. She always explained anything to look out for, whether it was for me or for the baby. She explained any side effects I may get when taking certain medications, so there were no surprises if I did get some.

She explained more than anyone else what to do with the baby when we got home, even small details on making sure to wipe properly. She joked when she was in and asked about personal details, and remembered what I said during her next visit. I had a few of the same nurses during our few-day stay, and she was the only nurse who did any of this or remembered anything about me. She even explained more things with the baby than any of the hospitalists who were there, and made sure I understood.

If I ever had to stay again at Bellevue, I would want Judy around in a heartbeat. It made me sad when the daytime came and the shifts changed, because it meant I would not see her again until the next night. Judy deserves to be recognized for everything she does, because you can just tell she does this for every single one of her patients. She is phenomenal at her job, and she will always be my favorite nurse when I tell people about the birth of my son.
