Throughout the past almost 6 months, Judy Lamb has proven how extraordinary a nurse she is. She has taken on the role of being a primary nurse to a patient on our unit who has been here for almost 6 months. What makes this role challenging is the noticeable lack of parental/family involvement in this baby's care, along with the complexity of his illnesses. Judy has not only been a wonderful, passionate, enthusiastic, caring nurse for this baby, but she has provided him endless amounts of affection and nurturing that a motherly-figure would provide. Judy has purchased an entire wardrobe for this baby, brought in bright, colorful decorations for his room, provided numerous books and toys to stimulate his growth and development, and done so with a smile on her face and love in her heart.
These are just a few of the amazing things Judy has done to positively impact this baby's life here in the NICU. Judy has consistently advocated for this baby's best interests throughout his hospitalization. By taking on the role of being his primary nurse, Judy has helped to provide consistent care for this baby by working closely with the multidisciplinary team, which has greatly impacted the improvement of his illnesses. It is so special to see how Judy cares for this patient as if he were her own child. Despite the challenges she has faced with him (such as his well-known reputation of being the crankiest baby on the unit), Judy has always shown a positive attitude and great enthusiasm when caring for him.
I cannot think of anyone more deserving of the DAISY Award than Judy. Not only has she proven what an asset she is to our unit, and Hillcrest, as a nurse, she has shown what a wonderful person she is!
