I would like to nominate Judy Pazzula, RN from the Outpatient Surgery Department for the DAISY Award. Judy has worked at CMC-Lincoln for 20 years and has also been a patient advocate and demonstrated caring and compassion to everyone she has cared for. Her actions several weeks ago exemplified these wonderful attributes.
Judy had an elderly patient scheduled for a pre-operative interview. Judy felt this patient had to wait too long and she decided to give the patient a meal ticket to the cafeteria for service recovery. The patient was very appreciative of the gesture, but explained to Judy that she did not have anyone to eat with and she did not want to go to the cafeteria and eat alone. Judy told the patient to call her after she recovered from her upcoming surgery and they would make a lunch date. The patient called Judy several weeks later and they made arrangements to meet for lunch in Café Med.
I had the opportunity to go to the cafeteria and meet this patient while they were having lunch. She was overwhelmed by the kindness that Judy had shown her. She felt that Judy went out of her way to make her feel special.
She later sent Judy a card to thank her for what she had done.
