Judy goes out of her way to learn each person’s unique history, circumstances, and career goals.
Judy uses her expert coaching skills and rich professional experience to mentor and advise students, faculty, and community partners.
In her role as DNP Program Director, Judy mentors the entire faculty. Her deep commitment to continuous quality improvement is evident in the national rankings of the School of Nursing’s DNP program. She is particularly committed to mentoring new faculty and regularly invites them to participate on the DNP Project Approval committee so they can learn more about the DNP process and develop their advising skills.
Judy has been a significant leader of the Clinical Faculty promotion support team which provides mentorship for faculty considering promotion and advises them on how they can best prepare themselves to be successful. In addition, Judy is regularly sought as a mentor for new nursing leaders and other community leaders. Her patient and wise coaching are deeply respected.
According to the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences, “An adviser will direct you without regard to your specific personal situation, needs, or passions. A mentor will allow you--and even encourage you--to choose your own direction, offering guidance that does take into consideration your personal situation, needs, and passions” (Mentordoctor, 2002). I can testify that Judy is an expert mentor for Post-Master and DNP in Health Innovation and Leadership students. She goes out of her way to learn each person’s unique history, circumstances, and career goals. She is deeply committed to elevating every student to their full potential.
