Julia Ellis-Stott, RN

I am honored to nominate Julia for the DAISY Award in recognition of the extraordinary compassion and professionalism demonstrated during my visit. Two days after undergoing a bilateral lower spine ablation, I experienced severe, unimaginable pain that required evaluation. As someone who works in that very department, seeking care there was uniquely difficult. Arriving unable to move or even get myself out of the car was both physically excruciating and emotionally humbling. Allowing colleagues to see me in such a vulnerable state was something I was not prepared for. She did not hesitate. She came out to the car herself and helped me into a room immediately. That act alone spoke volumes.

In a moment when I felt completely exposed and overwhelmed, met me with calm efficiency, dignity, and genuine kindness. She did not treat me as a coworker, nor did she allow the familiarity of our shared workplace to diminish the quality of care she provided. Instead, she delivered the same exceptional nursing presence that every patient deserves. What stood out most was not only the clinical competence, but humanity. Julia preserved my dignity at a time when I felt I had none. She balanced urgency with compassion, ensuring I felt safe, respected, and cared for. In an environment that is often fast-paced and high-pressure, exemplified what it truly means to be a nurse: seeing the person first, responding without hesitation, and offering reassurance through both action and presence. 

As healthcare professionals, we strive to provide the kind of care we would want for our own loved ones. On that day, this nurse delivered exactly that. Compassion transformed what could have been an isolating and humiliating experience into one defined by empathy and professionalism. Experiencing this care deepened my appreciation for the culture we aim to create and the standard of excellence she consistently upholds. For these reasons, I wholeheartedly nominate this nurse for the DAISY Award. Embodies the spirit of extraordinary nursing and is deeply deserving of this recognition.  With sincere gratitude.
