Julia has done an outstanding job this year as a unit director for the MICU (Covid ICU). When COVID struck, Julia was charged with taking on the covid admissions in her unit. She was instrumental in determining how the ICU would flow worked with covid and non-covid admissions. She was open to new PPE training and made sure the staff was educated on the process to be safe. She kept nurses informed and offered support as nurses were asked to care for patients which at the time was uncharted territory, she did not hesitate to mask up and help with care in COVID isolation and was able to demonstrate the DO as I DO not DO as I say mantra.

As time went on, she supported nurses who decided to travel and was forced to make difficult staffing decisions during the staffing crisis that ensued as the fallout of losing so many nurses to traveling. She is a role model for advocating for her nurses while keeping in mind her leadership and budgetary responsibilities. Julia is actively involved at the hospital level and serves as the new co-chair of the Transformational Leadership Council and helps to mentor new unit directors to the position making herself readily available to help work out difficulties and offer advice to deal with unit issues.

This is Julia's 2nd DAISY Award!
