Julia Schon, RN
Julia is an extraordinary RN Case Manager whose work embodies compassionate care, respect for diversity, and unwavering excellence in nursing. As a vital member of our 7S team, she consistently demonstrates the Providence mission: “As expressions of God’s healing love, witnessed through the ministry of Jesus, we are steadfast in serving all, especially those who are poor and vulnerable.
Julia lives this mission not in isolated moments, but in every patient interaction. She approaches each case with empathy, curiosity, and a deep commitment to understanding each patient and family's unique needs, values, and circumstances. She listens. She advocates. She teaches. She connects. And she ensures that every discharge plan—no matter how complex—is safe, thoughtful, and centered on the patient’s goals and the well-being of their caregivers.
What makes nominating Julia both easy and difficult is how consistent her excellence is. Every story I could highlight reflects the same truth: Julia pours her heart and soul into her work. She goes above and beyond for every patient, every time, regardless of barriers, challenges, or the emotional weight of the situation.
One recent example stands out. Julia was the primary RNCM for a patient, J.W., who remained hospitalized for over 350 days. J.W.’s hospitalization was marked by significant medical complexity, shifting goals of care, and differing perspectives between the patient, family, and clinical team. Throughout this nearly year-long journey, Julia remained steadfast. She collaborated tirelessly with bedside RNs, physicians, social workers, PT/OT, chaplaincy, home health liaisons, and countless others. She took the time to truly know J.W.—her hopes, her fears, her values—and to understand the family’s needs. Through Julia’s persistence, compassion, and exceptional coordination, J.W. was ultimately able to discharge home with the resources and support needed to honor her most important wish: to spend her 50th birthday at home with her family, on hospice, surrounded by love. This outcome was not luck. It resulted from Julia’s dedication, clinical expertise, advocacy, and unwavering belief that every patient deserves dignity, choice, and compassionate care. Julia is the kind of nurse who elevates everyone around her. She strengthens our team, inspires excellence, and ensures that our patients receive care that is not only safe and effective, but deeply human.
