I was the Constant Observer for a patient that was awaiting bed placement at another facility. The patient did not have any family with her during her stay and was nervous about being transferred.
As the time got closer and closer to discharge, the patient started getting more emotional and tearful. When the ambulance staff arrived to transport her, she started sobbing and not wanting to leave. Julia, who was her nurse, talked so gentle with her, telling her she was going to be OK, and reiterated that she would do great at the other facility. Julia then gave her the biggest HUG!
The patient was still a little apprehensive about leaving, so Julia then decided to walk with her to the ambulance and stayed by her side until departure. Julia's compassion for the patient was so genuine and you could tell the patient felt comfortable with her.
Julia is a great asset to the pediatric team!
