Juliana came back with some root beer and had swabbed C's mouth with the root beer to give him some familiarity with something he loved so much.
6Neuro took care of my great uncle, C, who sadly passed away on Monday. I wanted to let you know your team displayed the utmost extraordinary care during this difficult time. The family could not say enough nice things about the care that was provided by your staff. They were so kind, patient, caring, and understanding of the difficult situation.
In particular, the nurse that C had on Sunday night demonstrated extraordinary care. The nurse on this night had asked the wife if there was something special that C did at night, if he drank anything in particular. After thinking about it, she told the nurse that he often had a root beer float at night. The Nurse responded back, saying that they didn't have root beer, but asked if Pepsi would be okay and she said that would be fine.
The story does not end with a Pepsi. This nurse took it upon herself to call her husband and have her husband drop off some root beer for C. The nurse came back with some root beer and had swabbed C's mouth with the root beer to give him some familiarity with something he loved so much.
C's family was so touched by the extra mile that Juliana went to ensure that C's last few hours were special. Although a comfort measure situation is difficult, this RN showed an uncompromising commitment to compassionate and quality care. She listened to the family and brought comfort to a new level. The family and I'm sure C, were so appreciative and grateful for the attention to detail and going above and beyond what is required to ensure C had the best care possible. Her commitment to enhancing the quality of life that C had left was just astounding. If this does not demonstrate a remarkable and memorable patient experience at Nebraska Medicine, I am not sure what does.
