I was asked to recognize these two RNs by a patient's wife.
Mr. A was admitted to SICU on 6/11 postop. He was recently diagnosed with cancer and underwent major surgery. Unfortunately, Mr. A developed complications postop and passed away the next morning (6/12).
Juliann had taken care of him through the night and Lou the next morning. Both RNs stayed with his wife and supported her through her husband's last moments.
His death was a shock to her and totally unexpected. She was so thankful for the nurses who helped her through this and called them her "angels".
The next morning (6/13), Mrs. A returned to SICU and brought white roses for Juliann and Lou. Her very brief encounter with these SICU nurses left a lasting impression on her and helped her through the "most difficult time in her life."
