This year I had the opportunity to work alongside Julie for 180 hours in the MSICU to complete my last step before becoming an RN. I was a nursing student who was extremely nervous to be at a new facility and working in a critical care unit. From day one, Julie made me feel like I was part of the team. I wasn't just another nursing student who did not know anything. She frequently asked for input on the patient's plan of care and made me feel important. She made sure I had the opportunity to watch various procedures and then took the time to answer my exhaustive list of questions. She was patient. She did not just care for her patients, she was caring. She showed true empathy and treated each patient as if they were one of her family members. I am so grateful for the weeks I spent with her. From Floating to the Neuro ICU and then to the Burn Unit just four hours later, Julie always maintained her professionalism and kept a joyful attitude. Because of her willingness to teach, I was able to learn more than I anticipated in such a short amount of time. She gave me confidence in my nursing career and because of Julie, my goal is to become an ICU nurse one day.
I am extremely humbled to have worked with such an amazing nurse. Being a great teacher in an intense environment is nearly impossible, but Julie did it!
Thank you Julie!
