One of the most meaningful examples of Julie’s advocacy was her decision to nominate me for the Nursing Catalyst role, at a time when I was navigating elements of imposter syndrome and questioning my readiness. Rather than allowing doubt to limit opportunity, Julie listened thoughtfully, provided reassurance, and served as a trusted sounding board.

She offered a safe space for me to share ideas openly, helped me thoughtfully scope the project, and reinforced my confidence by affirming my capabilities and potential. Her belief in me allowed me to step forward in a meaningful way and embrace leadership growth. I successfully graduated from the 1st Catalyst cohort, and my project successfully impacted my team's engagement scores. 

Julie consistently partners with her customers and colleagues to deliver exceptional services within our department. She leads by example, actively serving on system-level committees and governance groups to ensure educational initiatives are thoughtfully designed and aligned with organizational priorities. She is highly diligent in seeking and incorporating feedback from others, ensuring that the right stakeholders are engaged on committees that directly influence the development and delivery of education. This intentional approach strengthens outcomes for end users and enhances the experience of our internal and external customers.

She is equally committed to partnering with system stakeholders to achieve the appropriate balance of expertise and perspective, allowing work to be completed effectively and accurately the first time. Julie’s collaborative leadership style fosters trust, accountability, and shared ownership across teams. A recent example of Julie’s impactful leadership includes her partnership with Patient Experience leaders to develop targeted educational programming. This collaboration directly influenced patient experience metrics and contributed to measurable, positive improvements in overall system scores.

Julie has been a strong advocate for advancing accountability within our department by thoughtfully and intentionally integrating the use of metrics into the work we do. While evaluation and outcome tracking have long existed, Julie recognized the importance of making this work more transparent and embedding it into our day‑to‑day culture.

This approach not only supports continuous improvement but also ensures that the education we provide is purposeful, measurable, and aligned with the needs of those we serve. By championing this shift toward data‑informed practice, Julie has reinforced accountability while fostering professional growth and shared responsibility within the team.

Over the more than four years I have worked under Julie’s leadership, her exceptional performance and mentorship have been instrumental in my professional growth. She has guided and supported me through significant organizational change, including regionalization efforts and restructuring within my team, while maintaining clarity, trust, and stability during periods of uncertainty.

Julie has been a steadfast advocate for my academic and professional development. She supported me throughout my Doctor of Nursing Practice journey, encouraged my Nursing Catalyst project, and celebrated my publication in a professional nursing journal. At the same time, Julie modeled lifelong learning by pursuing her own doctoral education and earning a nursing certification.

Her commitment to leading by example inspires those around her to aspire to higher levels of excellence. During times of financial constraint and limited resources, Julie’s leadership has been a critical source of strength. She ensured that her team felt heard, respected, and supported, while thoughtfully prioritizing work based on the most urgent and meaningful needs.
